Climate Engine is proud to highlight a success story that demonstrates how university–industry collaboration can strengthen digital awareness, interdisciplinary learning, and preparedness for emerging technological challenges.
As part of Climate Engine Innovation Week, the Virtual Laboratory for Climate Change and Technological Innovations at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM) organized the seminar “From Cybersecurity to Cyber Resilience: The New Era of Cyber Protection.”
The seminar addressed one of the most pressing challenges facing modern organizations: the growing importance of cybersecurity and cyber resilience in an increasingly digital society. Participants gained practical knowledge of current cyber threats, strategies for protecting digital infrastructure, and best practices for building resilient organizations.
The event featured two industry experts, Mr. Tomislav Filipov from Aurora Consolidated Ltd. and Eng. Pavel Yanev from Interproject Ltd. Their presentations combined practical experience from the IT sector with real-world case studies, enabling participants to better understand current cybersecurity challenges and emerging technological solutions.
In addition to students, researchers, and academic staff, the seminar was attended by the Rector of UCTM. This participation highlighted the strategic importance of cybersecurity education and digital resilience within higher education institutions.
Climate Engine’s Contribution
Climate Engine provided the platform for integrating emerging technological topics, such as cybersecurity and digital resilience, into the Innovation Week programme.
Through the Virtual Laboratory for Climate Change and Technological Innovations, Climate Engine facilitated cooperation between academia and representatives of the IT sector. This created opportunities for students and researchers to interact directly with cybersecurity professionals and gain first-hand knowledge of current industry challenges.
The initiative also demonstrated Climate Engine’s interdisciplinary approach by connecting climate innovation with digital transformation. Resilient digital infrastructure is increasingly important for sustainable, innovative, and future-ready organizations, particularly as universities, industries, and public institutions rely more heavily on secure digital systems.
Outcomes and Impact
The seminar generated educational, professional, and institutional impact by engaging 20 participants, including students and academic staff.
It strengthened cooperation between UCTM and leading representatives of the Bulgarian IT sector, while increasing awareness of current cybersecurity risks and cyber resilience strategies among students and academic staff.
Participants gained practical insights through real industry case studies on cyber protection and digital infrastructure security. The seminar also encouraged interdisciplinary dialogue between engineering, information technology, innovation management, and sustainability.
By facilitating direct interaction with experienced cybersecurity professionals, the event strengthened links between higher education and industry. It also enhanced the visibility of the Climate Engine project and the Virtual Laboratory for Climate Change and Technological Innovations as promoters of interdisciplinary innovation, digital readiness, and knowledge transfer.
The participation of the Rector of UCTM emphasized the strategic importance of cybersecurity as a key element of university development. It also highlighted the institution’s commitment to preparing graduates capable of addressing future technological, industrial, and societal challenges.
