Climate Innovation Bootcamp 2025 – Turning Sustainable Ideas into Viable Climate Startups: Developing the Next Generation of Climate Entrepreneurs

As part of the Climate Engine project, Moldova State University successfully organised the Climate Innovation Bootcamp from 3–5 November 2025, bringing together 28 participants—students, academics, and aspiring entrepreneurs—to develop innovative solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.

Over the course of three intensive days, participants worked on 10 climate-focused startup ideas, transforming early-stage concepts into structured business opportunities through hands-on learning and collaboration.

The bootcamp was led by internationally recognised entrepreneurship and innovation expert Ron Bloemers (Start-U-up, Netherlands), who introduced participants to the internationally recognised ClimateLaunchpad methodology for developing climate startups.

Throughout the programme, participants strengthened their entrepreneurial skills by working on founders' vision, value proposition design, market segmentation, identification of the first Beachhead Market, customer discovery and validation, financial planning, business modelling, climate impact assessment, and pitch preparation.

Using practical startup methodologies, participants learned how to validate ideas, better understand customer needs, and develop scalable business models capable of delivering measurable environmental impact.

Among the startup concepts further developed during the bootcamp were Air Bloom, Eco Drone, Eco Painting, Greenhouse, and TourBonus Moldova, addressing challenges ranging from urban air quality and reforestation to sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly manufacturing, and responsible tourism.

How Climate Engine Contributed

Climate Engine provided the framework for organising one of Moldova State University's first intensive climate entrepreneurship bootcamps built around internationally recognised startup methodologies.

Through the project, participants benefited from international mentoring by Ron Bloemers, access to the ClimateLaunchpad methodology and practical startup development tools, interdisciplinary collaboration between students, researchers, and entrepreneurs, and practical learning focused on customer validation, climate impact assessment, and business model development.

The initiative also strengthened Moldova State University's capacity to promote innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurial education while supporting the development of a growing climate innovation ecosystem within the university.

Outcomes and Impact

The Climate Innovation Bootcamp engaged 28 participants and supported the development of 10 climate startup concepts, equipping participants with practical skills in market validation, customer discovery, business modelling, financial planning, climate impact assessment, and investor pitching.

The programme introduced internationally recognised ClimateLaunchpad methodologies to Moldova while strengthening collaboration between academia, innovation experts, and aspiring entrepreneurs. It also increased the visibility of both the Climate Engine project and Moldova State University as promoters of climate innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship.

Beyond the startup ideas themselves, the bootcamp fostered entrepreneurial thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and greater confidence among participants to continue developing innovative climate solutions into viable businesses.
